Emergency contacts

Your mail back, even if you lose everything

Your mail is encrypted and only opens on your own devices. But what if your phone and computer are both gone, and your recovery code too? Then three people you trust bring you back in together โ€” without any one of them ever reaching your mail.

How it protects you

🪨

In three pieces

Your recovery key is split and shared across three trusted Plof users. One piece is mathematically worthless โ€” no partial access, no hint.

👥

Two together, never one

Only when two of your three emergency contacts approve together does your key come back. No one can do it alone.

🔒

Never into your mail

Your emergency contacts can help you recover, but they can never read your mail. Their piece opens your key for you โ€” not for themselves.

How recovery works

1

You set three emergency contacts

Pick three people you trust who also use Plof. Each automatically receives one encrypted piece of your key.

2

In an emergency you ask for help

Stuck on a new device? Start a recovery request. Your contacts get a message right away by WhatsApp or email.

3

Two approve

Two of your three contacts confirm in their own Plof that it is really you. Together they bring your key back.

4

You finish with iDIN

As the final step you confirm with your bank that it is you. Then your mail is yours again โ€” on your new device.

The double lock. Two trusted people prove they trust you; iDIN proves it is really you. An attacker would need the pieces of several people and access to your bank โ€” and even then never secretly, because you see every request.
